Having worked in education for 37 years and been responsible for art, design and technology, I have always striven to be creative. My use of materials has been extensive, anything from creative painting techniques, ceramics, electrical kinetic art , to constructing scarecrows out of found objects. I have loved the challenges that I have been faced with, which has led me to experiment with innovative techniques.
Now that I am retired, I can indulge my own experimental art techniques. I describe my recent work as a fusion between photography and watercolours. In my travels, I photograph objects ranging from driftwood, buildings and sunsets to fungi, flowers and fossils. I then use Photoshop to alter and distort these images and glue them on to backgrounds. Using textured paper, I surround the photos and then extend the images using watercolours across the textured paper and onto the surrounds. Furthermore, I am also experimenting with acrylics, mosaics , plaster and photos on boards. I have been very fortunate to have sold a number of innovative paintings and to have been awarded the Tom Holland Trophy for the most imaginative work in 2011. My work has been displayed in local galleries in Hampshire and Dorset, as well as being exported to New Zealand.
