Janet Read

Since taking early retirement in 2000 I have been able to indulge my passion for painting.
I work in oils, acrylics and watercolour occasionally but, mostly, I like to work with pastels.
The immediacy of pastels really appeals to me and I love the textural effects you can get from them.
Pastels lend themselves, particularly to fur and I use them extensively in my pet portraits which make up the bulk of my commissions.
Recently I have returned to this area after living on the east coast on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, while there I was able to observe
children at play on the beach and my paintings of them have become quite popular.
Now that I am back in this part of the world, no doubt, the beautiful New Forest will feature strongly in my future work.

I look forward to getting to know other artists in the society and, no doubt, learning from them.
