Mo Brooks - New Forest Artist
Mo was born in Lyndhurst, the very heart of the The New Forest in 1959.
A self-taught artist, Mo started drawing as a small child. Winning her first competition at 18, she eventually progressed to successfully exhibiting and selling her work at Windsor Safari Park and then Longleat in Wiltshire. Mo has achieved finalist status in several national competitions and illustrated a children's book for a local author as well as undertaking commissions both locally and nationally.
Mo is a member of the Society of Equine Artists (SEA) and four local art societies. She also supports and provides illustrations for The Donkey Sanctuary in Devon. In 2006 Mo won the Greyfriars Trophy at Ringwood Art Society's annual summer exhibition and, in 2007, the Presidents Award at the New Forest Show Art Pavilion. She now exhibits her work at a gallery in Lymington.
Oil is Mo's favourite medium because it possesses a richness and life all its own. Mo also loves using graphite to produce detailed character drawings and sketches of the local New Forest ponies, especially in spring-time when the little foals provide endless amusement and entertainment!
Striving to capture the beauty, diversity and spirit of the The New Forest is perhaps Mo's main objective which she considers a life-long challenge and labour of love. Mo hopes that in some small way and by sharing her vision of the forest, people will develop a deeper respect of the unique environment that is The New Forest.
