Plein Air: Appleslade Inclosure

It had all the features of working in the New Forest: strong winds, interspersed with brilliant sunshine, then grey clouds. So much glorious scenery, you don’t know where to start. It also included a gallop of horses (the stallions are out!) and several very cheerful dogs.

Most of us kept to the bottom of the hill and concentrated on the ancient woodland. Others braved the stiff breeze and thundering hooves at the top of the hill. There were inspiring views wherever you looked; woodland, rolling hills and a few buildings nestled in trees. The light changed every five minutes, so just when you thought you had it pinned down, it did something else.

It was terrific.
